Look for cracks in the base of flexible rubber flashing or broken seams in metal varieties of vent pipe flashing the rubber gasket that surrounds the vent pipe could be rotted. An ice dam occurs when snow melts and the water freezes when it hits the colder edges of your roof.

Review the active leak and note the surface where the leak is dripping from. Water from leaking roofs and decks is often dirty and will create stains as it passes through drywall. What causes flat roof decks to leak. Very often you can find ponding water accumulating on these deck roofs.
