Oven cleaner to remove paint from gelcoat.
After removing the paint the original gelcoat looks great so i d like to remove it all.
For an easy way to remove paint or varnish from wooden or metal furniture try using a can of oven cleaner.
Strip paint or varnish.
Here is what i do.
Gel coat needs to be sprayed and i understand requires some experience.
Spray oven cleaner on heavy let sit 5 10 mins wipe off.
But it does need to be washed afterwards.
Marine strip is a powerful water soluble paint and anti fouling stripper designed for marine uses which can remove up to 8 coats in just one application.
Plus the painted starboard side is a totally different colour to the port side and i d never noticed it before.
Hmmm never tried over cleaner to specifically remove paint but i have accidentily gotten it on things with no ill effect.
Just spray it on let it soak for 30 minutes and scrub it off.
Mask off all misc areas.
Easy off wont harm the gel coat either.
Using it on a painted surface takes a bit more care but can still be done.
Eazy off oven cleaner is the best thing to get painted lettering numbers off a boat.
But linear polyurethane topside paint such as awlgrip can be rolled on with excellent results and minimal practice look up the roll and tip method of application.
It costs less than commercial paint strippers and is easier to.
I have used it on several boats to remove the chalky residue on old gelcoat without all the buffing.
